2,000. Boom

Hello boys and girls. If you are here with us today, then you are witnessing history as Musings and Mashups just reached 2,000 site views and over 4,000 page views! Unfreaken real

We have featured Kiely Rich on this site before with his remix of a Project 46 house track. Well he's back and he brought his game to this remix. He takes an Adventure Club banger and turns it into a completely different monster. This guy has some serious talent.
Wait - Adventure Club (Kiely Rich Remix)

You'll instantly recognize this background song when you hear it. Florence and the Machine's original sounding track, Cosmic Love, is a sweet enough track, but that didn't stop Seven Lions from turning it into a chill dubstep masterpiece.

Extended Mix

Got an extended mix for you today.

I've been seeing more and more of these nowadays. An extended mix is a 50-70 minute that a DJ/producer puts together, mixing dozens of songs. What's great about them is that they are basically a DJ in a song. Slap it on for a house party, long road trip, or a workout, and you've got about an hour of uninterrupted music, mixed perfectly with fluid transitions. Especially for parties, this negates the need to constantly pick songs, and avoids the inevitable fights over what to play next.
This one here is by The Two Friends, who add in classics from Journey, The Eagles, and Elton John, as well as the old house/pop/electronic standbys.

Memories

If you don't remember Smash Mouth (more specifically their song All Star) then you can leave. Right now. That song was catchy as hell and it pops into my head once in a while and haunts me for hours. Well thanks to EGO who took All Star and mashed it with a few electro songs, you'll be humming "Somebody once told me the world.....I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed" soon enough.
Smash Mouth v. Ellie Goulding v. Skrillex - DJ EGO
Onto some original music. AN21 and Max Vangeli teamed up with Steve Angello to produce an unreal sexy electro song. What I really like about this song is the vocal samples used and the buildup. They also seem to throw a little of every electronic genre into the mix at random spots.

Sorry, I can only supply the direct link to the file, it's no where else on the internet

Dubbin

Some sweet tracks coming out these past few days. Plenty of good music out there right now, make sure you grab some.

First song is a massive track by a team-up between Adventure Club and Krewella. 16,000 downloads and counting in only four days. So much energy in this track, it's almost like an exercise just listening to it. As the title of the post suggests, this song gets fairly deep into dubstep, so just be prepared. Killer lyrics as well.
Rise & Fall - Adventure Club feat. Krewella

Another huge electronic song here, this time it's Zedd dropping a huge house song that officially comes out today. There seems to be a movement of adding more lyrics into electronic songs, but with the buildups and drops still the main points. Very happy vibe to this short but sweet song.
Spectrum - Zedd

Great remix of a song we featured a little while ago, Fifteen by Goldroom. One beef that I've had more and more with the music community is the proliferation of bedroom producers who remix every big song and don't really add anything of substance. And they usually take a different or opposite direction or feel that the original song was going in. This remix though, keeps the very light and dreamy feel of the original, while adding some danceability and very interesting parts.
Fifteen - Goldroom (Oxford Remix)

Folk-Indie sensation Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros released a single a few months back that I never noticed. Has almost a Bob Dylan feel to this one, plus the drums and soft acoustic, and of course the rousing choruses that ESMZ is known for.
Man on Fire - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Learned a few weeks ago from Jacob that Zeds Dead and Zedd are different. Who knew?

Bass

What's up guys I have an old and a new song today, both with plenty of bass. Check them out.

The first song is one I heard about a year ago but never got a chance to download or fully appreciate. If you haven't heard of Datsik, he is a pretty famous Drum and Bass producer who completely revamped the classic Kids by MGMT. If you listen with your computer speakers you wont hear anything but with some nice headphones or when you are cruising in your car, enjoy the sexy bass that makes everything rumble. I can't get enough

Kids - MGMT (Datsik Remix)

I found this song over at Earmilk and initially I was skeptical. I gave it one more listen and I fell in love. It's kind of a mix between electro, house and dubstep and it's definitely a unique sounding track. Love it or hate it.

Midnight - DJ Shadow (Urban Knights Remix)

Run It

Working through a backlog of music and I found some real beauties.

Penguin Prison is a name to look for. I've started to see his name everywhere. Here, Remix Artists Collective (RAC) teams up with Penguin Prison for a nice, melodic indie pop song. This is real easy listening. A light acoustic guitar, soft drums, strumming bass, and soothing lyrics. There's a more edgy remix out there, but I found the original to be much more pleasing.
Hollywood - RAC (feat. Penguin Prison)

Robin Carrion has been sending us music for awhile now and it always been solid, but nothing extraordinary. He breaks out of that shell with this song. A sweet house background with some rapping over it. A solid song to rage to this weekend. As always, play it loud.
La La Circles - Robin Carrion (Mashup)

This one comes from a rip of a (British?) radio station where it made its debut. For that reason, it's a little lo-fi, but its sheer power comes through anyway. Dreamy lyrics, slight dubs, what's not to love? Perfect song for slow-motion raging.
Through The Night - Bare Noize

The Hood Internet has been on a tear recently, dropping a new song every few days. This is a throw back, dropping down a retro bassline and has a myriad of rappers ranging from Biggie up to Penguin Prison. A bumpin summer rap mashup.
Fuck With Mo' Money - The Hood Internet

Teen Daze album comes out next week. I'm pumped.

Where's the drop?

See here I have a very very sexy electronic track, and when I first listened to it, it was building up and building up and then it kind of stayed at the same level and never dropped with a booming kick drum and a roaring bassline. This type of electronic music is growing on me. No drop, no problem just some sweet sexy sounds. Dig it

2F+PrototypeRaptor

Two songs today for you on this glorious Memorial Day.

You may remember PrototypeRaptor's previous huge hit, Drive Hard, which was featured on here. Well, he did it again with this song. Huge, glitchy sound with his signature crisp synths and many overlapping themes. Enjoy this one. Plus a free DL.

Jurassic Snack Pack - PrototypeRaptor

Next song is a bootleg from one of my favorite mashup producers, The Two Friends. What I love most about these guys is that they take from the edges of mainstream, or don't use the same bytes as other songs, so that you remember their tracks. Upbeat house this one is. Even reaches your core in some spots.
Not Another Dancing Song - The Two Friends

Disco Fries Are Back!

It has been a good 6 months since I heard anything from the Disco Fries, a group who has made several awesome remixes of popular songs, but they are back and didn't hold back on this one. They took Avicii's track Silhouettes and turned it into a completely new monster. I was on the edge of my seat as the buildup takes almost 3 minutes but it's totally worth it when this **** drops.

Got a song here by that same title.

Jhameel, an Oakland based artist shows his passion in this bumpin track. Really awesome lyrics combined with a huge sound that snaps you to attention. Blast this one.

Lupe

Thanks Luke for the birthday post, Birthday Sex seems to always be an appropriate song.

Anyway today I bring you a absolutely awesome Lupe track off of his soon to be released album Food and Liquor 2. It has a smooth saxaphone background and classic preaching lyrics from Mr. Fiasco. Enjoy

Mellow+Bang

Two songs tonight, mellow and a banger.

Mellow first.

Song by a NYC group who I've never heard of before. Soft beat in the background, strumming electric guitar, gentle chords. Mellow to the max.
I Already Forgot Everything You Said - The Dig

Oldie but goodie here for the banger. Designer Drugs dropped this a long time back, but it suddenly appeared before me and it can get someone moving. DD has always been on the backburner for me, but listening to this makes me want to hear more. Soft wobbles, fast splashes, and you've got a sweet banger.
Anthonio - Annie (Designer Drugs Remix)

Mashups Upon Mashups

What's up guys, It's been a while but I've brought along three tunes I know you'll love. So sit back, relax and enjoy.

This first one is a mashup of Jay-Z's popular 99 Problems and Glitch Mob's Fortune Days. I love when DJs find two songs that nobody would ever think of putting together and making them work as if they were never two separate songs.
Jay-Z vs. The Glitch Mob 99 Days (Carlos Serrano Mix)

Project 46 seems to always bring their A game with uplifting house tracks, and this remix adds to the happiness and bounce that I always love. This is the third Project 46 song featured on this site and at this rate probably many more will be in the future. Is that a free download?
Project 46 - Reasons ft. Andrew Allen (Kiely Rich Remix)

Another Mashup? Yup! I haven't heard anything from The White Panda recently that reminded me of their golden year last year until now. They mashed together Bittersweet Symphony with Mac Miller's Donald Trump. Pretty sweet

Musings on a Mashup

It's not often you stumble across a mashup with creativity, but here it is, one of the most interesting two song mashups I think I have ever heard. Urban Noize sampled Kanye West's part of Forever (you will recognize it) and places it over the sound of a choir rendition of Radiohead's Creep. When it all comes together it's hard not to smile. Enjoy

Eclectic Groove

Got an eclectic grouping of songs for you tonight.

First here is all the rage of the blogosphere the last few days. This beauty, dropped by Goldroom, will just make you feel happy. I might venture to label this one dream-disco. This one is worth your time.
Fifteen - Goldroom

Project 46 takes an already great Deadmau5 song and styles it to make it a little more dancefloor friendly and one which will get your feet a movin. Sweet, danceable buildup, getting lost in the depths of time and space, with some spine-tingling lyrics to boot. Kaboom.
The Veldt - Deadmau5 (Project 46 Rework)

Last one was sent to us, and I wasn't expecting such a sweet trip of a track. It's a little short, but has some awesome synths and riffs. Glitchy, fun, and carefree. If you like Wolfgang Gartner or Prototype Raptor, you'll like this. If not...you'll still like this.
Neon - Mr. Wonk and Sharam Jey

Raise the Roof

Happy Monday everybody. I hate Mondays and if you do also, I'm sure you came to Musings and Mashups today to cheer up. A producer by the name Lonczinski sent us a track yesterday and as soon as I heard it, I knew I had to share it with you guys. Un-freaken-real progressive house track. He also has a free download on his Soundcloud below so check it out and enjoy.

Bumpin

Missed you all yesterday, but I'm coming back to you with two new bumpin tracks.

Uh-Oh. That's what I said when I first heard the Stairway to Heaven chord come on in this track. It's such an awesome song, and most mashup producers think they can use it willy-nilly. However, DJ Fusion treats it with respect and puts it into a mashup that works perfectly with 2pac's flow.
I Wonder If Heaven Got a Stairway - DJ Fusion

When will "Call Me Maybe" die? The world may never know.

But for the time being, as it makes its rounds within the mashup community, we found an awesome mix by 3LAU that fits in the lyrics with some of Porter Robinson's filthy beats.
Petty Language - 3LAU

Quality B.o.B

B.o.B is one of my favorite rappers right now, and so naturally I'm inclined to use his songs in posts. But that doesn't change the fact that this song is damn catchy with a cool background and nice lyrics. I even don't mind Nicki Minaj in this one as I can almost stand her verse.

Enjoy, and enjoy the weekend

Lucid Rock

Oldie but goodie here for you today. One of my favorite songs of the new, lucid rock genre.

Sweet sound bite in the beginning, moving into lucid guitar and kickdrums. Lyrics that make you think, and that you can hear, which doesn't always happen in lucid rock songs.
Heaven's on Fire - The Radio Dept.

Theophilus Dubstep

Skream, one of the original, I mean one of the first 10 people to start producing what we now call dubstep has created a gem of a track by taking Theophilus London's I Stand Alone and adding a calm earthy dubstep tone as the background.

It's not conventional dubstep, and has some elements of drumstep so I recommend that everyone gives this song a chance, Enjoy.

Poppin Party Dance Music

Got a sweet banger for you today. Never heard of Felix Cartal before today, but isn't that the greatness about today's music? An artist can come from nowhere to suddenly top the charts.

This song has some great vibes coming off of it. Gets a little glitchy in the middle, but is absolutely a song you can get down to.
Tonight - Felix Cartal

Chill House

It's approximately 8:30, I have a ton of work, but that's ok because I can listen to this gem while "studying". We featured Project 46 before with their legendary remix of Alesso's ID Praise You.

No drop, no kick drum to rage to, just calm house to sooth your ears.

If you need something a little more crazy, check out Cryptex's new remix of Flo Rida's Good Feeling. If you like glitched out craziness take a listen. If not, maybe this song will turn you on to a new genre of electronic. A remix of a remix, as a mashup that was then re-glitched, can you dig it??

SummerWave

Chea,

Chillwave extraordinare Summer Heart drops this track. And it will just lift your soul.

I was walking around earlier today and looked up and saw the leaves fresh on the trees. What a welcome surprise. I never knew how much better everything looks outside when the sunlight is sifting down through the leaves.

Anyway, this song is once again dropped by Summer Heart and it will be your anthem for cool, relaxed, chilled out summer nights.

Daily Quality - TYR Dubstep

In our second ever daily post I've decided to feature an up and coming dubstep artist with an original style. If you haven't heard it already, this song is titled DRVGS (drugs) and has one of the coolest drops I've heard in a while but maintains a calm feel. Check it out

Theme Park - Two Hours (RAC)

Aaaaand hello there loyal followers. Today begins our shift into a new format on this blog.

Following our poll and while discussing it betwixt ourselves, Jacob and I have decided to move in the direction of a one-post a day format.

The blogosphere moves fast, people. And to keep you up to speed, we hope to get great music out to you faster. It will also make our jobs easier by not needed a big chunk of time in which to get a post out.

And onto my song for the day.

Remix Artists Collective (RAC) is truly a wonder in the world of new music. He remixes songs I've never heard of (like this one) and makes them into catchy tracks that always flow well. He doesn't get as much hype as Kap Slap or Adventure Club, but I would highly recommend going through his soundcloud page for some hidden gems. This song is a relaxed beauty that simply makes you happy, makes you want to go outside, makes you want to kick off your shoes.

Mr. London

Good morning. Sorry for the little wait but I'm back and have some awesome music for you guys today. So sit back and enjoy on this lazy April sunday.

When Theophilus London releases a new track, the blogosphere explodes (and for good reason). Theo's catchy flow and just as catchy beats seem to always match up for a sick track. I just can't get enough of the brass sampling of the old time song "Big Spender", and you won't be able to either. Enjoy
Big Spender - Theophilus London feat. A$AP Rocky

I don't always enjoy calm electronic music, but Deadmau5's new track The Veldt doesn't need a buildup to a drop. Sweet relaxing Deadmau5 with calm lyrics - who could say no?
The Veldt - Deadmau5

It seems like everything Tiesto or Hardwell touch is gold, but a couple of days ago, Tiesto released a track produced by both of them for Tiesto's upcoming Club Life 2 album. Very calm and upbeat and just plain sexy.
The Naked And The Famous - Young Blood (Tiesto & Hardwell)

(sorry it's only a preview for now)

Recently I haven't enjoyed any new White Panda mashups I have come across, but that all changed when I heard their mash of Marvin Gaye and Chardonay, Turn it Down, and Le Castle Vania. It would seem that these songs wouldn't work together but they were able to cut and sample certain parts of Big Sean's song to make the mashup work. Good work
Turn Marvin Gaye Down - The White Panda

We received an email a couple days ago from a producer who goes by the name of Magnum, and like with all the songs we get by email, initially we were skeptical. I started listening and before long I was electrified by the energy in this electronic beauty. Magnum was also nice enough to give a download link for our site, so take a listen, or 7, and enjoy a free download.

Spring is in the Air

Boy, oh boy, spring has arrived. Good weather, good times, and good music. God supplies the first, you supply the second, and we'll supply the last.

Absolute killer right here. The Kickdrums are the main focus of this track, and I've been seeing more and more of them recently. This song combines instrumentals, elecontric, and hip hop into one grooved-out song. Worth a listen right hur.
Come Come - Hot As Sun (KickDrums Remix)

This song was just an awesome surprise. Combining a dope house beat with some great Americana themes, it's something I've never heard before. Great track for the beginning of spring. Crank your speakers for this one, it's meant to be heard loud.
American Girl - Silver Medallion

And even in your elation about seeing the birds and leaves out again, don't forget about the genre that got you through the winter; chillwave. True sprawling beauty of a song here. Tune in, turn on, and drop out, my loyal readers.
Dive - Tycho (Memoryhouse Remix)

Yes, it is that song. The one on the commercial that you said you hated but was secretly hoping would come on again. Sadly, this great song served in a commercial for the worst web browser known to man (IE). What I love about this one is the electronic only kicking in during the chorus, letting the powerful vocals speak for themselves.
Too Close - Alex Clare

And to finish you off here, I've got the quintessential summer song. I featured Viceroy's remix of a Nortorious B.I.G. This one, steel drums included of course, is the perfect song to set you off on your way, with a song on your lips and spring in your heart.
Return of the Mack - Viceroy "Jet Life" Remix

Some Energy

I like music with a lot of energy. You might say, well duh, that's the point of a lot of songs. They are made to pump you up and get you dancing like a maniac. Yet certain songs just pop out at you as you can't control the bobbing of your head. I got some really sweet songs for this post so, as always, enjoy!

I haven't heard anything from Kanye since Watch the Throne, but finally one of my favorite rappers drops an unreal track produced by DJ Khaled. Like always, it seems like Kanye puts in 100% into every song he produces.

Porter Robinson does it again. This 19 year old prodigy released the track Language and I was instantly addicted. A lot of electronic house music is starting to sound monotonous, but Porter brings his own unique feel to this masterpiece that I just can't get enough of, and you won't be able to either.
Language - Porter Robinson

Strobe (one of the first house tracks I ever enjoyed) has more energy than almost all other songs out there, but that wasn't good enough for Special Features. They had to completely remake Deadmau5's track into their own beast that is a completely different song but with the same feel of the original. A little old but Absolutely Sexy.
Strobe - Deadmau5 (Special Features Remix)

Yup, Tiesto and Wolfgang Gartner teamed up, and this is their creation. Combining progressive house and a little dirty dutch, I dare you not to love it. Official release date is tomorrow
We Own The Night - Tiesto & Wolfgang Gartner ft. Luciana

If you missed it on our facebook page, I posted Hoodie Allen's new song to celebrate reaching 1000 views on this blog. Give this song a chance cause when the bass kicks in after 20 seconds, it's hard to stop listening.
No Interruption - Hoodie Allen

Throwing Music at Ya

Tons of music to throw at you tonight, so get your speakers and/or headphones ready. I mean, it's a rainy Sunday night, what else have you got going on?

Because of the rain, I'm going to start an ambient gem of a track. Thievery Corporation, one of the best ambient names in the industry released this song in their album, Culture of Fear, in 2011. Experimentation in this song is incredible, and I have been bumping this song for several weeks now. Felt like the right atmosphere to pose it to all of you.
Take My Soul - Thievery Corporation

All relaxed and feeling good after that last one? Well snap out of it! Got a banger here for you. Yes, yes I know there are a bajillion remixes of Martin Solveig, and guess what...here's another. An awesome song for cruising on a summer night. Feel good electronic, is there any better new genre?
The Night Out - Martin Solveig (A-Trak vs. Martin Rework)

Ah, Dragonette. The feel good vibes coming from this song are intoxicating. Then again, the genre the group posts this song under is simply, "Joy". Thought-provoking lyrics filled when a body-gyrating beat. Guess the spring songs have arrived.
Let It Go - Dragonette

Mashup-Germany is back. What I love about this song and about him overall is how he'll take either old or slightly not mainstream tracks to mashup into a song that can still get people onto the dancefloor. While other mashup producers pick over a few of the same songs, Mashup-Germany will bypass all of that are create unbelievable mashups. According to him, a new album is upcoming. Can't wait.
Numb Encore 2012 - Mashup-Germany

Now for another complete switchup. A very pleasant surprise came to me in the form of Wildlife Control. In an era of computer-produced music, dubstep, and EDM, no matter how much we may like those, it is just fantastic to hear a straight up band producing music with guitar, drums, bass and piano. Dig it.
People Change - Wildlife Control

Our boy AceJack is back. And back with another "electronic journey" as I like to call it. You'll find the same basic beat going throughout out this song, while he moves through drum and bass, tip-toes on dubstep, comes out unscathed, and emerges with another brilliant saga through the world of electro. Watch this producer.
Discovery - AceJack

And finally, as promised, we send you off with another ambient great, Teen Daze. This song will just help you sleep at night, that's how peaceful and overpowering it is. Imagine just being picked up by a friendly giant, but you were okay with it, and he let you sleep inside his pocket for a few days. Yeah, that kind of overpowered and peaceful.
Fantasy - Teen Daze

Hope you enjoyed the music.

Stay classy, blogosphere

Polls

What's up everybody? Recently, Luke and I have been wondering what people actually think of our blog. We've discussed possible changes but we want the changes to reflect what you, the followers, would like to see altered. If you could give us 15 seconds of your time and fill out the poll on the right sidebar with your opinion, we'd appreciate it.

If you haven't listened to it already, Omar LinX and Zeds Dead partnered up to create an album of freaken awesome music. What really caught my ear in these songs are Omar's relaxed lyrics that still seem to have so much fire behind them. My favorites are The One and Coffee Break, but to each his own. Enjoy
Zeds Dead & Omar LinX

Dubstep comes in many forms, and this form is definitely one of my favorites. The S creates a beauty of a track with calm synths that drop suddenly. Although clearly dubstep, this track borders on the catagory of many electronic songs these days. Note: Wynter Gordon makes any track sexy.
Ladi Dadi - Steve Aoki ft. Wynter Gordon (The S remix)

The Dean's List brings the heat on this free track, Hollywood. I always enjoy their laid back lyrics and smooth sampled beats. Get this track while they still are giving out free downloads!
Hollywood - The Dean's List ft. Dani Ummel

Vava Voom. I have no idea what that means but that really doesn't matter considering two of my favorite artists from very separate genres combined to make a pretty sick combination of Bass Music/Dubstep and Hip Hop. Check out Lupe Fiasco and Bassnectar's hopefully first of many team ups.
Vava Voom - Bassnectar ft. Lupe Fiasco
Vava Voom [ft. Lupe Fiasco] (They don't allow direct linking so check out the track on Bassnectar's Soundcloud)

A couple of posts ago, Luke featured No Pets Allowed for their song Dead Siberian Romance. Well they did it again creating a completely original sounding mashup of many songs you will recognize including Adventure Club Dubstep and The Cataracs. Sweet.

Absence+Concert Season

Hello all,

Do you all even remember me? Well, I wasn't gone for too long, just a week, but a week without showing you today's fantastic music seems like an eternity. A hectic week of school left no time for truly appreciating what new music was out there, but I've come into plenty of free time this weekend.
Concert season is beginning, with SXSW wrapping up a week ago and more and more venues opening themselves up to crowds all across the country. Winter is over my friends, it's time to come out and listen to the music.

First song comes from a new artist I happily discovered today, Kinnie The Explorer. Located somewhere between dream and psychedelic rock, and with it I'm in heaven. The sound is like a toned down version of Tame Impala with slowed down instrumentals and softer vocals, but of the same strain.
Empyrean - Kinnie The Explorer

Another Dead Prez remix of their song "Hip Hop"? Before you cringe, keep reading. Jimi Needles mashes this mashup favorite with "Total Recall" by Flosstradamus, and actually brings a new interpretation to the song. The two songs match up much better than they do with many other mashups of "Hip Hop", so give it a listen.
Total Hip Hop Recall - Jimi Needles

This masterpiece was sent to us via SoundCloud from Edmonton-based producer AceJack. This 18 year old has some serious, and I mean serious talent. The only way I can describe this is that it's an electronic journey, taking you through genres and beats with ease and then seamlessly floating into the next style. He writes the genre as "Epic Dirty Electro Dance House" and I don't disagree with that categorization. Get going on your journey.
EPIC? - AceJack

Man, 3LAU is awesome. He always brings a bit more on each of his songs, and never sounds stale. He labels this song simply as "Sex", and again, I thought that was a very fitting self-evaluation. This song has blown up, with over 16,000 downloads on SoundCloud alone. Kap Slap's star has faded a bit, with his last few songs being real duds in my opinion. We'll have to see if 3LAU can continue to fill the college-dancefloor-filling-producer-DJ void that seems to have cropped up.
Action - 3LAU

I just love hearing great rap songs like this. No, not hip-hop, but rap. Piece of Mind just relies on the strength of his vocals and rhymes, not falling back on house or electronic backgrounds to cover for any weaknesses. The sound is like '90s rap, just a human voice and a simple bassline. This song is just meant for riding around in a car, summer night, windows down, head bobbing. Enjoy it.
Rap Phenomenon - Piece of Mind

Savor the tunes, and savor the weather.

Top of Google Search!

Yeah, that's right. Go ahead and open up a new tab, work your way over to google search and type in "Musings and Mashups". What you see before you is that this up and coming blog has made it to the top of google search when someone types in our name. All of those phonies below are second rate to (in my opinion) the best music blog out there.

Onto some great Thursday tunes.

The featured song for today is a remix of a semi-popular track "What Happens in Vegas" by DJ Chuckie. What really stood out to me in this song is the relaxing guitar used in the long buildup and the unconventional style of dubstep. TYR turns this song into one of the most original sounding dubstep songs I have ever heard with the random breaks in between the synths. Enjoy
What Happens in Vegas - Chuckie (TYR Remix)

The next track is a mashup I made myself while fooling around with some songs in my Recently Added playlist. I combined Flo Rida's lyrics in Turn Around with Drive Hard, which Luke recently featured in a post. I had fun making this song so relax and take a listen.
Turn Around + Drive Hard - DaBearJew Mashup

This next track is by a DJ you all know and love, Tiesto. It seems like everything this guy puts his name on is an absolute electronic masterpiece. I love how all of his songs sound so unique which is rare to come by in today's music world. Got me thinking about summer....
Chasing Summers - Tiesto

The last song has blown up.... I mean it has completely conquered the blogosphere in a matter of days. If you haven't already heard this new track from the Swedish House Mafia, you need to give it a listen.
Greyhound - Swedish House Mafia

I apologize for all the electronic music this post, I'll bring more variety next time around.

Lazy Sunday Music

Sundays are awesome, especially in the second semester. A whole day stretched out in front of you where you can relax any way you can conceive. Here at Musings and Mashups, we only rest once we give our readers a dose of today's best music, from all genres. In that spirit, you'll find today's post especially diverse.

Finally, we are saved. The Two Friends have released another mashup. Each and every time they seem to ressurect songs that most people thought were very dead and very buried. And this release is no different, taking Fountain of Wayne's classic song "Stacy's Mom" and turning it into a dancefloor maniac.
Stacy's Mode - The Two Friends

Is there anyone who doesn't like Calvin Harris? And who can get enough "Feel So Close To You"? This remix comes sent to us from DJ Robert Pennington and usually I'm wary when it comes to DJ produced tracks. They tend to feel rushed and ill-put together. But he nails it on this one. Awesome pick of lyrics and expert clip to use from "Feel So Close To You". Enough blabbing for now, take a listen.
Feels Like a Domino - DJ Robert Pennington

Been awhile since I heard an indie-rock song as good as this one by The Kickdrums. Heavy line and big brass coming in during transitions. A little dreamy in parts, which never hurts. Then, out of nowhere, smooth and relaxed rap and an added a snare. Sundays are for listening to some different types of tracks, so try this one on for size.
Thieves in The Choir - The Kickdrums (feat. Casey Veggies)

British Invasion part deux?? You might think so by listening to this beautful Beatles cover by Benjamin Francis Leftwich. Awesome vocals, gentle guitar, there's simply nothing not to like. Very well done covers are one of life's little joys.
Ticket To Ride (The Beatles Cover) - Bejamin Francis Leftwich

Geez, I just can't get enough St. Lucia. He released a self-titled EP about a week ago, and you can see the growth in this talented producer. He's branched out into unchartered territory, using original lyrics and unique beats and sounds. Been listening to this one quite a bit. You will too.
Closer Than This - St. Lucia

It's frustrating and awesome when you can't categorize a song. There's just no genre you can confidently put to this next song, and while frustrating at first, I then realize that it's awesome because it's something I haven't heard before. This remix by EarthMoonEarth fits neatly into that niche.
Easy - Dragonette (EarthMoonEarth Remix)

Finals song comes from a section of the new music world that we haven't featured much here, it's folk-rock. I do enjoy Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and Mumford and Sons to some extent, but it seems we haven't been able to feature any new bands like them. Well that ends now. Heartless Bastards have a similar sound and just an awesome, head bobbing vibe to them. Dig it, and check out their new EP, Arrows, on SoundCloud.
Parted Ways - Heartless Bastards

Lots of music today, and couldn't even fit it all in. Stay tuned.

Until Next Time,

Spring

Ahhh Spring is approaching, what a wonderful time of year. A time when you can finally leave your house and enjoy the outdoors. But don't forget about Musings and Mashups cause we will stil be bringing you the best music on the regular.

I've been waiting and waiting for the one and only Flux Pavilion to drop another track and boy did he come through this time. This isn't the first time Flux has remixed a track by the artist Example; he also remixed Midnight Run which I recommend you check out here. This song packs a big punch with familiar deep bass we've come to expect from Flux Pavilion.
Daydreamer - Example (Flux Pavilion Remix)

As Luke mentioned in a previous post, the word "Crunchy" is used in electronic and dubstep music but it is really hard to define and I don't even know if I can call this crunchy. It's like when.... Or how..... Or..... Well give this remix a listen and describe it how you want because I can't put this delicious sound into words.
Vandalism - Porter Robinson ft. Amba Shepherd (Lazy Rich Remix)

A couple of days ago a producer named David Austin sent us this track on Soundcloud and as soon as I started listening to it I knew I had to feature it in my next post. Combining Madeon's sweet electronic sounds with Labrinth's chill lyrics. One of the most relaxed mashups I have ever heard plus David offers a free download on the Soundcloud below.
Madeon vs. Labrinth - Icarus' Last Dance (David Austin Mashup)

Awwww this post is almost over but I'll send you off with a bang. I've always been a big fan of Calvin Harris and his original electronic feel. On this song he brings the heat with a simple but catchy background combined with Ne-Yo's smooth words. Sounds mainstream but I'm digging it and you will too.
Let's Go - Calvin Harris ft. Ne-Yo

Amped Up

Didn't expect to write this post today but am amped up and just got to let out these musical energies I seem to have. Just got back from seeing Project X which was one of the most fun and entertaining films I've seen in awhile. Now before you say anything about the quality of movies I must watch, you must know that if you are not in the exact target audience of this film (suburban, young, male), you could hate it and walk out. Second reason I'm amped is because of all this awesome, awesome music we've been finding here at M&M. Best thing about finding this great music is being able to play it over and over, something I've been doing with each and every one of these songs.

First up is a song that I have played probably 25 times since first hearing. Electronic masterpiece here, something to get you going for a great night out. But beware. Listening to this addicting track may program your brain to want to listen to this for days on end.
Drive Hard - PrototypeRaptor

To tell the whole truth, this song wasn't my favorite when I first heard it. But like a dog at your feet when you are eating chips, it just wouldn't go away. I kept coming back for more listens. Adds a much better background to the original Tyga song and makes this into something I really enjoy listening to.
Polish City - The Hood Internet

Basic Physics, finally, at long last, has released another single, and it's well worth the wait. In classic BP style, this song combines incredibly diverse songs into a fully integrated style that will get your blood bumping. Great buildups and releases, a sure song to add to your playlist if you plan on hosting any shin-digs.
The Encore - Basic Physics

Next song is for all you househeads out there who can't get enough bass. Dreamy and ambient in the beginning before building up to a huge drop that will leave you speechless and literally begging on your floor for more. Don't go too crazy with this one. Or do.
Roll the Dice - Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman

Last song is a very, very interesting mashup that shows the true, authentic skill of its producer, No Pets Allowed. Besides having a sweet name, this guy can mash. Period. Awesome beat and some real catchy lyrics (who would think of using Fall Out Boy). Take a listen and then take some more.
Dead Siberian Romance - No Pets Allowed

Enjoy Yourselves. And give us a like on our facebook page.

Fake Genres

There are so many different genres out there now in the music world that it's starting to get confusing. I was looking through a few of my favorite blogs and noticed a tag on a electronic song labeled "psychotrancestep". Call me a skeptic but I'd like someone to prove to me that it's a real subgenre of electronic music. Until then I'll just bring you the music I've been listening for the past couple days.

So a while ago I heard this track produced by Alesso and was impressed. This guy only produces hits and this one "Calling" is one of his most popular. But then as if the song wasn't good enough, they added vocals that completely change the song and I can't stop listening. I know you won't be able to stop either.
Calling (Lose My Mind) - Alesso & Sebastian Ingrosso

The next song for today is one of the most relaxing house tracks I think I have ever heard. Tom Fall and company do a perfect job sampling bits of voice to give this track its off beat appeal. Definitely worth a listen.
Ordinary World - Tom Fall & Heikki ft. Ben Andreas

Classsssssic Chiddy Bang. If you are a fan of Chiddy Bang, they bring their top game for this song. It's one of my favorites off his new album Breakfast especially with its relaxing chorus. If you like what you hear go support Chiddy on Itunes.
Talking To Myself - Chiddy Bang

Last but certainly not least I found this dubstep song on youtube of all places but don't let that discourage you from listening. This is exactly the type of dubstep I can handle, no random noises, just sweet sexy synths. Show the play button some love.
In Hell - High Rankin ft. Tigerlight

The Jane Doze and Site Updates

You're looking at the faces of The Jane Doze, a particularly good mashup duo out of NYC. I've followed them somewhat, but they dropped a completed mixtape, called Girls Talk, including 6 new mashups yesterday. They've made a huge splash and great reviews. Found some gems in there myself, hence, I chose to feature them here. More on site updates on the bottom.

First Jane Doze here is my personal favorite. Very creative and diverse artists brought together. Glitchy in parts, takes the best out of Deadmau5's masterpieces. Funky in other parts, this song will get you going.
Glad You Raised Your Weapon - The Jane Doze

Next song here is quite old, but a sure beauty. Have had this song on repeat for the last day now. I Have been looking for a sweet mashup of Ellie Goulding's beautiful vocals. While labeled a dubstep, you'll hear that this one touches that fine line between true dubstep and electronic, a niche I do much enjoy. And you will too.
Your Song - Ellie Goulding (Blackmill Dubstep Remix)

As I've probably mentioned before, I'm a huge B.o.B fan. It seems like he never misses. I've been with him from the beginning, since his B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray mixtapes, and have been with him ever since. He has veered more into the mainstream, doing songs with Lil Wayne for his new album coming out in May. This one was released recently, generating a lot of buzz for what will be on the new album.
So Good - B.o.B

The band Fun. has burst onto the scene, at least in my narrow view. A very playful indie-pop band, several members come from The Format, a band with similar sounds, and which fits nicely into the Ben Folds category. This rousing song will be your blood pumping, and teens will find many lines that really resonate with them.
Some Nights - Fun.

Continuing with The Jane Doze, one of the great things is their free downloads. This song is on a different wavelength from the pervious song, a bumpin track featuring chillstep song Saeglopur by Sigur Ros and some laidback raps. Song reminds you of a breezy summer night. If only.
Replacement Ros - The Jane Doze

About the site updates. As Jacob pointed out last post, we've started a partnership with the blog Beatfind, a great blog that I think everyone can enjoy. We are always looking to improve your music experience, it's actually the first question I ask myself in the morning. Thus we will be reaching out to blogs we personally like and see where we can get more partnerships going to give you more great music.

The header is up for changes, we're experimenting with what looks best. Got some ad placements around the site, and will be playing with those to see what works. May be restructuring the posts as a whole. Lots of work and changes ahead. Stay tuned.

Beatfind

I've got exciting news for the Musings and Mashups community today. We recently partnered with a blog called Beatfind. I recommend you all check out the blog right here as it was created with the same intentions as us, just posting good music.

So on to the music for this weekend!

I've been waiting a long time (a couple months) for another hot Wiz Khalifa track, and finally he delivers. I love the flow in this track; it makes it hard to not bob your head to the beat. Worth about 5 listens so show that play button some love.
My Favorite Song - Wiz Khalifa ft. Juicy J

Another song that caught my ear is this new Santigold track with the original Santigold feel, Disparate Youth. I'm always a fan of Santigold's style and she never seems to disappoint. I remember listening to her famous song "Creator" and being confused and entranced at the same time. Give it a listen.
Disparate Youth - Santigold

So if you have been following other blogs in the music community, you have probably given Nero's dubstep Must Be The Feeling. The original isn't very exciting but it seems everyone and their mother has made a remix. I finally found my favorite of all the remixes, and hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I have. It's not wobble dubstep, just some sexy synths.
Must Be The Feeling - Nero (Brookes Brothers Remix)

The last song ( I know, so sad) I have today is a remix of Madonna's song Give Me All Your Love by Laidback Luke. It makes listening to Madonna enjoyable and totally not weird. Skeptics, take a listen.

Happy Music

Who could resist with a title like that?

Ahhhh, it feels good to be writing in here again. After an awesome and thrilling vacation, I was itching to see what music the world had produced in the week I was gone. And boy was I happy. In addition to these, I did find a handful of similarly awesome chill/reflective songs, which I will be featuring in my next post. Good times ahead.

All these songs will make you move, make you dance, make you smile, make you lean back in your chair, utterly satisfied. The cool thing is how each are different, yet make you feel those same, euphoric, happy feelings.

First song here is by house producer Michael Mayeda out of Sin City. The song begins inconspicuously enough, but then launches into a mouth-smacking intro that makes you come rigidly to attention, while you are thinking to yourself, "Damn, this is gonna be awesome." Song then proceeds into glitched-out, wonderful sounds.
Perfect Ending - Michael Mayeda

Now I've never been a Sean Paul fan. Really I've only heard his hit song "Temperature" and that's about it. You can't understand a thing coming out of his mouth in that song by the way. Despite my trepidation however, I got hooked onto this track by DJ Wood. He calls this song's genre Ghetto Funk, and I couldn't think of a better label.
Get Bendy - DJ Wood

A new genre sweeping (maybe not sweeping) the blogosphere has been electro-swing. I'm excited. Electro-swing combines the big brass elements of 1920s swing with trance/electro beats of its own. Think that won't make a song that will get your feet bouncing? Think again, my friend.
Catgroove - Parov Stelar

Myndset has been a regular in the remix genre for awhile. He doesn't drop songs often, but when he does, they might as well be atom bombs, as they always light up the 'sphere. This one has a long buildup, where you are only vaguely aware it is happening, but at the drop, the good vibes emanating from your speakers will overload your ears. Enjoy.
Kick Out the Full Access Motherfucker - MYNDSET

Spine-tingling vocals. Check. House/trancestep epicness. Check. Goliat is on to something with this track. Suddenly in the middle I realize I should be looking up at the brilliant stars above also. I dare you not to like this one.
Million Stars Come Out - Goliat

A strange phenomenon is listening to a song, not liking it, then listening to it again, decide it's alright, and then a few listens later, you suddenly can't get enough of it. This is my story with this track. The Two Friends drop this remix, and as I've gushed before, I can't get enough of their stuff.  This song will grow on you as well, especially the absolutely heavy, gritty, electro parts.
Best of Me - Carousel (The Two Friends Remix)

Lots of tracks for everyone today, I stumbled on some goldmines today while looking for music. I hope these songs made you get up and dance.

Till next time,

-Luke
