Chillstep

So I've noticed an upsurge in a new genre of music lately, and its called Chillstep. The first song I posted here by Gramatik is a great example and I'm very excited to see where the genre goes in the future. Electronic seems to be expanding, and is not just the pulse-bounding, headache-inducing type most associated with the genre; it is becoming more and more complex.

Gramatik, a producer from Slovenia, is not the typical producer. He has dipped into a huge range of music and while I have mixed feelings about his work as a whole, I can't seem to get enough of Muy Tranquilo. An awesome example of Chillstep, and I hope electronic moves in this direction.
Muy Tranquilo - Gramatik

Who can turn down a B.I.G. remix? Yes, many try to fit in his lyrics where they just don't fit. But this one just plain works. Summery tone, exactly what is needed in this depth of winter. Caribbean vibes, and when the steel drums come in...I'm sold.
Going Back to Cali - Notorious B.I.G (Viceroy Jet Life)

I've really been atrracted to some of Teen Daze's work recently. He has absolutely pushed the limits, and that creativity is so refreshing in a music scene that mostly consists of everyone using the same few pop songs to make a mashup. Teen Daze uses obscure work, brings out its strengths, and creates memorable song after memorable song. Get lost in Colours.
Colours - Young Liars (Teen Daze Remix)

Don't play this song with your grandparents present. Funny lyrics and a killer beat creates a song you can rage to. I can see this being featured in many future mashups, you heard it here first.
F U Betta - Neon Hitch (Chuckie Club Remix)

That's all I've got for now. Remember to check back at our older posts for even more great music. And please throw us a like on our facebook page so we can show it off to all our friends.

As Always,

Dubstep?

What's up guys? I know Luke and I brighten your day every time a new post is out, so here I go. Also, we have a Facebook page so if you would like know when we have a new post, go ahead and click that like to the right of the blog.

The first song is another beauty by Adventure Club Dubstep. If you happened to look back at the first post right here we posted a song by this dynamic dubstep duo from Montreal called Collect Call but today I'm sharing Crave You, a smooth pulsing song that reminds me a lot of their other songs. I'm not a fan of dubstep made up of random noises and long WOOOMMMPPPPPs so if you are like me, enjoy this relaxing escape from Skrillex-esque dubstep.
Crave You - Flight Facilities (Adventure Club Remix)

It's hard not to like Chiddy Bang's refreshing raps, always upbeat and stuff. So today I have a remix for y'all of Chiddy's song Ray Charles. Skeet Skeet Moombahton (yeah that's who remixed this song) did a great job turning Mr. Bang's B- song into a definite A.
(note: Chiddy Bang's lyrics don't start until 2:05 so if you have Music ADHD like me, go ahead and skip ahead)
Ray Charles - Chiddy Bang (Skeet Skeet Moombahton Remix)

Now as I explained before, I'm not a fan of heavy dubstep but this exception caught my ear. XV and Wiz Khalifa teamed up for the song Gobstopper but a lot was missing from the original song. Figure completely reworks the background to a catchy dark synth creation. I could do without the screeching dubstep in the middle of the song but everything else is pretty damn sexy. Give it a listen for a minute, addicted yet?
Gobstopper -XV feat. Wiz Khalifa (Figure Remix)

The last song is kinda old but I missed it. The White Panda churns out so many great hits that many of them fall through. They perfectly match up Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's lyrics with Starfucker's mellow background. You will recognize it when you hear it.
The Next Starf*cker - White Panda

Variety

You're looking at the faces of The Hood Internet, one of my favorite mashup producers. They've been producing for a long time and it seems like every song they do is good in its own way. They've avoided the mistakes of other mashup producers and continue to methodically produce good music. You won't listen to a strikeout from these guys.

Almost forgot, but the title of this post just describes the variety of songs I've got for you today. Electrontric, mashups, indie, one-stop music shopping.

I've featured these guys today because they've produced a sweet mash using M83's Midnight City. Possibly one of the most mash'd up songs, I've yet to hear one that's come close to the original. Except for this one. What's different about this song is how they don't try to compete with the original on its own turf (electronic), but they sidestep, use the song's strengths, and add in some very fitting vocals.
One Midnight With You - The Hood Internet

Found a different song by these guys, but I checked out their SoundCloud and found this gem. Still trying to figure out the meaning of the song. While they are indie, they aren't the whinning, anxious type I usually associate with the genre. Fluid vocals, sweet riffs.
Life in the Fields - Sporting Life

Now I am no SBTRKT fan. Crazy dubstep is just not my thing. I can't get into it. However this song by SBTRKT is very different. Mellowed out to the extreme and so very skillful poppin' electros. This song has hit it big in the blogosphere, hopefully it will hit you as well.
Atomic Peace - SBTRKT

Got another M83 mix here for you. These guys just refuse to go away. Their music has been used in such a range of music it is really staggering. It's a testament to them because it shows what a wide audience they've attracted. This one is much, much more subtle than The Hood Internet's track. It starts off slow but builds without you even realizing it, and has the crescendo in the end. Keep with it, you won't regret it.
Raconte-Moi Une Historie Sur Le Ciel - Wait What

Final song is from a  mashup type that I haven't heard in a long time and always makes me smile. You'll find no pop here, no head banging drops. These mashup producers like Settipalli Productions treat what they produce like an art, and it pays off big time. The creativity is off the charts and you can feel how much sweat and soul has been poured into the song. Enjoy.
Ron Burgundy is Beautiful - Settipalli Productions

Music is truly best when you crook your ear far and wide. It's impossible to like every type of music, but label as few genres "off limits" as possible. Listen to mashups. Listen to classical. Listen to country. Listen to indie. Listen to variety.

As always, if you like what you hear, buy the artists's albums and go see where they are performing and see their concerts.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Thank you Mr. King for a beautiful Monday off from school, you were a truly amazing man who forever changed this world for the better. A perfect day off to post about music.

The first song I'd like to share is called 2012 (Twenty Twelve). After building up for 1:30 like all electronic songs I know, Fareoh and Archie V. drop in some rolling synths that I guarantee will put a smile on your face. This song definitely reminds me of Levels or maybe I'm just losing my mind, either way enjoy this upbeat banger.
2012 (Twenty Twelve) - Fareoh & Archie V.

This next song is by a producer I hope you are all familiar with, Avicii. "You're Gonna Love Again" is another hot track by the Swedish DJ with his familiar sexy synths. If you have music a.d.d like I do and can't wait for the good part of the song, skip to 2:00 on that beautiful music player below. Don't forget you can download the song too as long as you check out our disclaimer first.
You're Gonna Love Again - Avicii feat. Nervo

If you haven't experienced Aloe Blacc's masterpiece "I Need A Dollar" yet, go ahead and click this. You're welcome. Now when I found a remix of this song I was skeptical as a song as good as this is often ruined by remixes, but not this one. La Felix keeps Aloe Blacc's same feel with a piano and a bass guitar, but reworks the bassline into a funky track.
I Need A Dollar - Aloe Blacc (La Felix Remix)

The last song for today is a remix of Coldplay's Paradise. Now before you exit out of this page and never come back because I'm posting about Coldplay, I wasn't a huge fan of them either, but this remix is absolutely worth a listen. Again, the good part of the song doesn't start until 2:30, so thank Hulkshare for the quick buffer and enjoy.
Paradise - Coldplay (Fedde Le Grand Remix)

Suprises

Surprises are awesome, aren't they?

After a hectic week, I hit up the internets this morning to listen to some tunes and immediately find an awesome (I mean awesome) producer/mashup artist just dropped in my lap. I've posted two songs here on this post from The Two Friends, but I encourage you all to click on the link on the bottom to their Soundcloud and listen to more of their bumpin' tracks.

This is their most recent song, and it has gotten the most hype for them, blowing up big on the blogosphere. It shows their skill, and most of all their creativity in using two completely different songs, putting them together, and tying it off with their smooth transitions. "When I'm Gone" by Wiz Khalifa and "What You Know" by Two Door Cinema Club
When You Know - The Two Friends

Fast forward thirty years from now, and imagine your kid asking you, "Daddy/Mommy...what music did you listen to when you were a kid?". You'll smile, pat them on the head, and say, "I've been waiting thirty years for you to ask me that." For you will have the perfect song, produced by Mashup-Germany. Displays some serious mashing skill here. It'll leave you saying, "What the Fuck" and shaking your head in stunned shock.
Top of the Pops 2011 (What the Fuck) - Mashup-Germany

What's great about The Two Friends are their ability to produce original work, not just mash. They teamed up with Gabriel Stark who displays his own flow and swag on this track. This is one of their older song, but truly good music is never too old. "Daylight" by Matt and Kim in the background
Do It All Again - Gabriel Stark (prod. by The Two Friends)

Next song is definitely a different wavelength. I encourage you to find a window to stare out of or crackling fire to stare into before you play this track. Ambient sound coming from this is overwhelming and while a bit lo-fi (low bit rate), the sounds seem to hit on a deeper level. See if you can dig it.
Sprawling and Glorious (Teen Daze Rework) - Geotic

Hope you enjoyed this post. Make sure you like us on facebook. Below you'll find a link to The Two Friends's SoundCloud, and I encourage you to listen to their songs if you are itching for more from them like I was. Just as you think the music scene is settling and you've listened to it all, someone will pop up and smack you in the mouth.

Welcome Newcomers

So if you are reading this, you probably clicked on one of our facebook links as this is the first day we are releasing Musings & Mashups to the general public. So tell a friend, tell all your friends or at least give us a like in the right sidebar of the blog. You'll get quality music delivered to your doorstep, all downloadable (check disclaimer). This is actually our 7th post so don't be afraid and go explore the older posts for some more new quality music.

Onto the Music....

This first song is a remix by R3K, the musical genius who brought us the Falling Star Kid Cudi remix which Luke has already featured in a past post. The smooth samples that R3K weaves into this masterpiece compliment Lil Wayne's lyrics so well that even someone who doesn't like Lil Wayne (us) can still appreciate this song.
Fly By Night (R3K Remix) - Lil Wayne

This next track is a laid back remix by RAC (Remix Artist Collective) giving Theophilus London's catchy lyrics a flowing bounce. Mr. London is heating up with several big songs, maybe we will start hearing him on Z100 one of these days.
Why Even Try (RAC Remix) - Theophilus London

Ahem...and now a Musings & Mashups original mashup. Combining "Kick, Push" by Lupe Fiasco and a remix of the Friendly Fires song "Paris" by Aeroplane, the latter of which was posted in a past post. Jacob posed this to me (Luke) and I was immediately excited about it. Now I know there are a lot of "Kick, Push" remixes out there, but this one is absolutely worth a few listens. Flows extremely well, and it's something you'll find yourself bobbing your head to. Bump your speakers and turn on this track.
Kick Push + Paris (Aeroplane)

Remember Girl Talk? Who doesn't. He's one of the original mashup entrepreneurs. He released a this track named Triple Double about a year ago but seemed to slip through the cracks. Same old Girl Talk feel, perfect transitions, tons of variety and skill very few can really compare with. Enjoy, because we sure did.
Triple Double - Girl Talk

Next song is a bit old, but awesome nonetheless. This song really is a relaxed summer song, but that's exactly what everyone needs in the bitterness of Old Man Winter's grip. Dirty Gold drops this track, and hopefully it will raise your spirits.
California Sunrise - Dirty Gold

Hope you enjoy what you see here. Check back at some of our previous posts for even more quality music, and stayed tuned for more. Remember to throw us a like on our facebook page.

Enjoy the Music,

Jacob and Luke

Chillness

So you may see the title of this post and then the picture, and be utterly confused. But let me explain. So the first song I found this week to include on M&M was Jedi Theme by Coyote Kisses, and I was inwardly high-fiving myself because I'd have a great song, a picture to include (which can be difficult to fit in), and something to talk about (Star Wars). However, as the week went on, I kept finding awesome chill music of a range of varieties, and ergo, this week's title.

As I was saying, this absolutely banging electronic mix was dropped this week and has been all over the blogosphere. As I said, I am a Star Wars fan and when I first saw the title, I cringed, thinking it would butcher the original epic score. However, Coyote Kisses does this song severe justice and drops this beauty of a song.
Jedi Theme (Remix) - Coyote Kisses

Next song is where the chilliness really begins. I'd never listened to Ben Howard before, and usually stray away from acoustic indies, but this reminded me of Mumford and Sons, who I do like, and Mr. Howard comes across as very authentic.
Only Love - Ben Howard

The frostbite (see what I did there?) continues with this track from 2AM Club, who I'd never paid much attention to before, but I've decided they really do hit it on this song. And who can turn down a song with someone ticklin' the ivories quietly in the background?
Tell Her Hi - 2AM Club

Last song is another by 2AM Club, and has a more upbeat tone, but is incredibly catchy and sincere. Love the R&B parts thrown in. I can definitely see this song entering into the pop mainstream and becoming a radio favorite. You heard it first here folks, remember that.
Every Evening (feat. Chiddy) - 2AM Club

Album Artwork Wha-What?

Yup, you are looking at the new album artwork made by our friend Ryan for our blog and all the music we share with you. Did I mention that all songs have a free download? Yeah, who doesn't like free quality music delivered to your doorstep.
Anyway, I have 4 songs for you guys today, did I mention they are ALL FOR FREE.

The first song today is another remix to the SBTRKT track Wildfire. Last week I shared the remix done by Paper Diamond (amazing) but this is a remix by Drumma Boy feat. Shabazz Palaces, turning this song into a great background to rap on.

Wildfire (Drumma Boy ft. Shabazz Palaces)

If you missed it last week, here's the other Wildfire Remix by Paper Diamond

Next is a relaxing yet off beat remix by aeroplane with bouncing notes. Half way through a xylophone type noise comes in perfectly and adds to the overall upbeat feel of this song.

Paris (Aeroplane Remix)

If you haven't heard of The Jane Doze, you are truly missing out; They make mashups with a wide variety of music. This time they combined T.I.'s vocals from Bring Em Out with the Glitch Mob's interesting We Can Make The World Stop glitched out craziness. Impressive.

Bring Em Out (Jane Doze Mashup)

Lastly, I stumbled across Total Recall, a new can't-be-categorized song by Flosstradamus. It's one of the most unusual songs I've ever heard but when the bass kicks and the synths start up I hope you get hooked like I did.

Mashup Wednesday??

Dear Loyal Following,

As you have surely noticed, the artwork for today is the album artwork of M83's recent album "Hurry Up We're Dreaming". I myself am an album listener, and it really does take at least an album to get a true feel for a group or artist. I listened to this album on Spotify and would highly recommend it to anyone. Just great sounds coming from each track, it's as simple as that. Everyone has probably heard Midnight City, but what blew me away was their versatility, quickly being able to change between a huge range of tempos.

One of my favorite songs from this album is "Wait". A great song to listen to while getting work done, and a song full of emotion. "No time" are the two words said mostly throughout the song, and it really made me think. Enjoy.

Wait - M83

Getting back to the title of the post, I've included two head-banging mashups, this first one by Kap Slap. Kap Slap makes consistently great tracks, all songs that anyone can rage to. My only compliant would be lack of variety, but the guy can still sling tracks like no other.

Resurrect Paradise - Kap Slap

Next mashup is another by an artists featured here last week, Basic Physics. Basic Physics definitely pushes the envelope more than Kap Slap does, and is much more experimental. A great track and I especially enjoyed the "Harder Better Faster Stronger" (Daft Punk) parts thrown in.

Strength in Numbers - Basic Physics

Final song is from one of my favorite new bands. At heart I'm truly a '60s rock and psychedelic rock fan, and this band Tame Impala out of Australia is doing some awesome stuff that sounds like it is straight out of 1967. Fantastic use of guitar feedback in this track. Stick with this song whilst listening, it's totally worth it.

Desire Be, Desire Go - Tame Impala

2012 Is Here

Yeah, so Happy New Year Everyone! Damn Mayans, trying to ruin all our fun with the whole end of the world scare. It's alright, they are generous enough to allow me to experience 3 months of college before the whole world implodes on itself.
So here are two new songs and my two favorite songs many of you might have missed in 2011.

So the first new song I have for you guys is a remix by Paper Diamond called Wildfire. The original is by SBTRKT, but it doesn't compare to this masterpiece crafted by one of my favorite electronic producers.

Wildfire (Paper Diamond Remix)

The next song is by Calvin Harris, yeah that guy who did that song with Rihanna. This is one of his recent singles on his album Ready for the Weekend. The vocals aren't that special but the background is a really happy smooth electronic beat.

You Used To Hold Me - Calvin Harris

There were a ton of great mashups in 2011 with DJ 3LAU and KapSlap putting out great material, but a DJ by the name of Basic Physics posted a mashup as a thank you to his fans for reaching 300,000 views on his music, hence the song name 'The 300 Club'. Smooth transitions and no boring parts.

The 300 Club (Mash Anthem) - Basic Physics

I have heard many great dubstep songs this year; this was also the year I really started listening to Dubstep. But as soon as I heard this song I was instantly hooked on it's relaxed synths that slowly build up to an intense climax. I'm On One by DJ Khaled and Drake etc. is a great song but was completely transformed by Killagraham into a true masterpiece.

I'm On One (Killagraham Remix)
